eBay sellers plan revolt against rule changes
Some eBay sellers are threatening to boycott the auction site in protest against fee increases and a change of rules which they feel will favour big businesses.
According to an insightful piece in the last edition of The Sunday Times, a worldwide one-day boycott of eBay is being planned for May 1st, following significant changes to the voting system which has formed the basis of how the site runs to date.
Until now, small businesses trading on eBay have been able to "rate" each other, thereby allowing companies to build up a reputation on the site. They have also been able to post responses to comments posted by buyers.
From May 2008, only buyers will be able to post comments relating to the service they have received. Sellers will not longer be able to respond - even to potentially damaging comments.
This dramatic change lies at the heart of the campaign to boycott eBay.
