About Bytestart

Bytestart.co.uk is the online portal for small businesses in the UK, launched in early 2005.

There is a large amount of information posted on the Internet for small business people. However, we have always felt that much of the available content is either overly officious or pretty corporate in nature.

Having been involved in successful community portal creation already (most notably, the leading freelance site in the UK - Contractor UK), the team behind Bytestart felt that there was a great demand for a small business site which was owned and edited by small business people. The information and flavour of our site is intended to be informative but also readable and entertaining.

'Bytestart' was chosen as a suitable name since it incoporates the themes of a) starting a new business and also b) the essential role IT plays in many of today's small business operations in the Internet age (hence the word 'byte'). Finally c) it rhymes with 'right start', but that domain name had already been taken!
