5 marketing tricks your competitors aren't using

By Paul Green

Successfully marketing your business doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive.

It’s all about making sure your business and its offering are in front of your potential customers at the exact moment they are ready to buy.

To do marketing well you need either money or time. Personally, I think you can do a better job with a tiny amount of money and lots of time, than someone with a big budget who needs results quickly.

See, a little marketing creativity can go a long way. Here are five easy ideas that have been proven to work time and time again. And the good news is that because they require a bit of effort, it’s likely your competitors will not be using them.

Send regular newsletters to your customers and potential customers

Newsletters are a great way to stay top of mind with people who have already bought from you, or might do in the future. Send email newsletters regularly – at least once a month. You can send them as regularly as once a week if you have something interesting to say. Try not to make your newsletter too much of an advert. Instead it’s better to give free advice and information, with a reminder of the products or services you offer. Focus on long-term wealth creation above short-term profits.

Do a publicity stunt

What could you do that would make people have a positive reaction and remember your business? Brainstorm ideas, pick one and plan it, review it for business risks, then do it. Remember when Richard Branson dressed up as a bride? Very few business owners would do that … maybe that’s why very few business owners have his fortune.

Send press releases

Find out what media your target customers use, then submit story ideas to that media. You can send press releases or even just email your story ideas to them. Don’t worry, most journalists don’t bite! If you can come up with a great story suggestion that’s genuinely of interest to their readers, you are actually doing them a favour.

Add new content to your website regularly

There’s nothing worse than a website set up three years ago that’s just stagnating. On the internet content is King on the internet. So add new content and refresh the old content regularly. Get into the habit of doing a little bit every week and it will stop being a big job that you keep putting off.

Do something, anything, consistently and passionately

The business that does poor marketing often, is more likely to win than the business that does excellent marketing now and again. If you can spend 30 minutes a day on marketing that will give you more than 100 hours a year pushing your business. And so long as you track your results and keep trying to improve them, you will ultimately see an upturn in business.
