Business group welcomes renaming of DTI

Last week's decision by the Government to change the name of the Department for Productivity, Energy and Industry back to that of the Department of Trade and Industry, was a sensible decision, the Institute of Directors (IoD) have said.

Richard Wilson, Head of Business Policy at the IoD, said:

“The Government is degenerating into a circus and the clowns have taken charge. A department of state responsible for spending billions of pounds of taxpayers’ money has seen its name changed twice within a week. Ministers and civil servants should be focussing on threats to business competitiveness such as the threat to the UK’s opt-out from the Working Time Directive, not toying with different names for their Department.

“It is a victory for common sense for the Department to revert to its original title of Trade and Industry. UK businesses hope that Ministers will focus on more substantive matters from now on.”
