TV team seeks small manufacturing business for documentary

 print  e-mail

Channel 4 Documentaries are looking for a small (10 - 30 employees) manufacturing business interested in receiving help from a top management consultant to take part in a documentary.

People often end up in their jobs through nepotism or by accident. In many cases the personalities and natural abilities of key staff are completely unsuited to their job descriptions, not to mention the fact that they've often had little or no training.

For example, a manager may have landed her job simply because her dad owns the business, while the receptionist may have ended up as head of marketing because the last person walked out suddenly and there was no one else to fill the role.

We all know people who have been promoted way above their level and are unable to cope with their responsibilities, while in other cases, talented staff are unable to fulfil their potential because they're also in the wrong job. All this can create a sense of resentment, leading to discontent and low productivity in the work place.

The aim of the documentary is to take a small business that has had a haphazard approach to HR and with the help of an expert, establish exactly where each member of staff's strengths lie.

The expert would then restructure the company accordingly, moving people to new positions and retraining where appropriate. The new set-up would be tested over a trial period to see if it proves to be a more effective way for the company to operate..

The company chosen for the programme would receive the expertise of a top management consultant for free.
