New Year - a popular time to set up a new business

 print  e-mail

More people decide to start their own business in January than any other month, according to research carried out by one of Bytestart's partners, home business website Enterprise Nation.

The sheer dread of returning to an unrewarding office job after the Christmas period, combined with fresh resolutions to take action and fulfil long held ambitions, is the spur many people need to become their own boss.

Over 55% of Enterprise Nation members said the New Year had given them the impetus to get started on turning their business dream into reality. There are more than 2.1million home based businesses in the UK and over 60% of all new businesses are started from home.

Commenting on the findings, Emma Jones, entrepreneur and founder of Enterprise Nation, told us, “We certainly see an increase in site traffic in January as people are back in the office but aren’t really enjoying being there. This is the best month to act. If you have a bit of spare time on your hands as everyone gets back up to speed, start researching your idea and talking it over with friends and family. I’ve spoken to hundreds of home business owners and I can safely say that not a single one of them regrets leaving the traditional office for the home office.”
