The FPB's Small Business "Wish List" for 2006
In typical yuletide spirit, small business pressure group The Forum of Private Business has sent the following song to Chancellor Gordon Brown as its Christmas Wish List for a prosperous New Year for its 25,000 business members.
Sung to the tune of "12 Days of Christmas", the Wish List for 2006 goes something like this:
On the first day of Christmas, the FPB said to Gordon Brown:
1. Reduce National Insurance Contributions by employers
2: Link the National Minimum Wage to the retail price index
3: Increase Business Rates Relief thresholds to match Scottish levels
4. Simplify employment laws
5. Suspend London Congestion Charging
6. Close the VAT loophole on goods bought from the Channel Isles
7. Stabilise fuel duty by linking to cost per barrel
8. Restore retirement relief on Capital Gains Tax
9. Reduce Insurance Premium Tax on compulsory insurance
10. Allow stage payments of tax monthly in arrears
11. Reduce VAT on labour-intensive services
12. Reduce Stamp Duty on commercial property - and a partridge in a pear tree!
