An 'alternative Budget speech'

Earlier this week the CBI published an 'alternative Budget speech' that it believes the Chancellor should deliver on March 12th.

In their six-paragraph alternative, the Chancellor would tell the country that because the UK economy is facing more uncertain times, "This is no time to be imposing tax increases affecting business".

The Chancellor would therefore, postpone the controversial and ill-thought out Capital Gains and non-doms tax changes for one year.

Sadly, this scenario is about as likely as Alistair Darling reversing the 3-step increase in small companies tax that was announced last year.

We only have 7 days to wait before we find out, for real, what the Chancellor has planned, but with the public finances in a mess, Budget 2008 is unlikely to bring any cheer to small businesses.
