Most small business partnerships based on trust

The results of a survey released this week indicate that the owners and partners in most small and medium-sized businesses have no legal protection against a partnership bust-up (see News).

Over two-thirds of the partners in small businesses surveyed, stated that their partnership is based on a handshake and trust as opposed to a written contract.

The findings clearly horrified the legal profession, who were quick to step in to offer their counsel. For a suitable fee, of course.

However, I think it's a refreshing state of affairs. If you can't trust your business partner, you probably shouldn't be in business together.
