Why Obama's victory is being celebrated in Edinburgh

Barack Obama's victory in the US Presidential race is being celebrated across the globe.

For some, the significance of the United States voting for its first black President is the reason to celebrate, for others, it's the hope and optimism that Obama's 'Change' campaign has engendered. But for Canongate Publishing, a small Edinburgh publisher, there's another reason to toast the 44th US President.

Shortly after Obama announced his candidacy, Canongate Publishing secured the UK publishing rights to his two books, 'Dreams From My Father' and 'The Audacity Of Hope: Thoughts On Reclaiming The American Dream’.

Obama's victory over McCain, will drive a massive increase in sales of 'The Audacity Of Hope', which outlines his vision for the US. And with Christmas on the horizon, the book could well sell half a million copies before the year is out.

So as well as honouring Obama's success, we can also celebrate the victory of a small, nimble publisher in stealing a march on its bigger competitors.
