A network of small business networks

Networking is a great way for small businesses and new start-ups to make contact with others in the same boat. You can learn from others, share ideas, help each other and get new business by networking effectively. And in most cases, you can do this for a nominal amount of money.

But for many new businesses it can be hard to find good, local networking groups. So, to try and make it easier for small businesses to find local networking groups, Make Your Mark have set up a website that lists groups from all over the UK.

On the site, you can quickly find out what networking opportunities there are in your area. Over 200 groups are listed already and if there's not a suitable group in your area you can make a post on the site to see if there are any others who'd like to join you in starting a new network.

If you're currently running a networking group you can easily add your details to the site and promote your group to potential new members at no cost.

So to get networking, visit the Make Your Mark Connect site

To help you get the most out of networking read our article on 'The best way to make networking work'

Get that press release write!
Good public relations are essential for any business. If you can persuade editors to run a story about you, it's worth a dozen adverts or mailshots. Here we look at how to structure your press releases to get maximum effect.

Setting up a Company – The pitfalls you need to avoid
An essential article if you're setting up a company - we look at the potential issues which could embroil you and your embryonic business in litigation - planning, financial matters and regulations.

BCC calls for lower corporation tax to aid UK competitiveness
The pre-Budget Report submission of the British Chambers of Commerce, urges the Chancellor to lower UK corporation tax to 25%, bringing it into line with the EU average.

Discriminating Without Prejudice? The End of Settlement Meetings?
Traditionally, employers have been able to rely on the use of 'Without Prejudice' meetings to conduct sensitive negotiations with employees.

However, the steady erosion of the without prejudice rule by the Employment Appeal Tribunal is gathering pace and employers would be well advised not to give in to the temptation of a ‘quick fix’ without fully considering the consequences.
