DIY PR for small businesses - British Library - Weds 24th September

print  e-mail

"Do-it-Yourself” PR might well be a solution for small firms looking to reduce costs in the current downturn but still keep their profile in the public eye. Enterprise PR specialist Louise Third and business correspondent Maisha Frost will run their next media workshop on Wednesday 24th September (5 to 7.30pm) at The British Library Business and IP Centre on Euston Road.

Places cost £47.50 +vat per person which includes handouts and a copy of Louise’s e-book ‘PR on a Beermat’.

“Effective PR is all in the preparation”, says Louise, who wants to help as many smaller companies gain valuable media exposure. “Simple things which make small firms media-friendly include writing your business start-up story, developing opinions based on experience and having a high-quality head and shoulders colour photo handy. Then you are ready to call those editors and tell them what you are doing.”

The Business & IP Centre has teamed up with the two experts to deliver a fast-paced, practical and interactive introduction to working with the media. Participants learn to identify news through the eyes of a journalist, master the art of composing a press release and then how best to flag up their own story by being able to tackle those all-important calls to the press or broadcast stations. Learning from each other and drawing from the resources at the British Library adds to the dynamism of this event.

Gaby Rose, Business Engagement Manager for the Business & IP Centre, comments: “In this current uncertain climate, small and medium sized businesses can really benefit from attending ‘Have You Got News For Us?’. Not only can businesses and entrepreneurs gain valuable skills, but they can also learn from the experts.”

Places can be booked online via the British Library website at www.bl.uk/bipc/workshops.html
