BMW banned by Google for dubious SEO techniques!

 print  e-mail

With so many small businesses now reliant on Google for a large chunk of their online traffic, the news that Google appears to have banned the German BMW site from its search results for dubious search engine marketing techniques just goes to show how important it is not to push your luck too far when trying to get high ranking for your keywords.

It also demonstates the great power Google now holds over the web search market.

BMW.de seems to have received what has become known as the Google "death sentence" - the complete removal of all pages on that domain from Google's search results.

When a search engine spider crawled pages from the BMW.de site, it would see a number of keyword-rich sentences, however any visitor clicking onto such pages would receive a Javascript redirect to a glossy brochure page. This is a direct violation of Google's webmaster quality guidelines which specifically ban the use of deceptive search engine marketing techniqes.

You can read more about this juicy story on Matt Cutt's excellent website (Matt is a Google search engineer).
