Budget 2008 - Date set for 12th March

 print  e-mail

Chancellor Alistair Darling will deliver his first Budget on 12th March at 12.30 GMT, the Treasury has said.

Unlike his predecessor, who held the job during a period of unusually healthy global economic times, Darling faces some tough choices - as the true reality of Gordon Brown's "prudent economic policy", and more recent financial market uncertainty, hits home.

The Institute of Fiscal Studies (IFS) has warned that taxes will have to be raised by £8bn to prevent the Government from breaking its public borrowing targets.

In the October pre-Budget Report, Darling forecast government borrowing would be £38bn this fiscal year - a figure most experts believe will be significantly higher.

We will provide full Budget 2008 updates here on Bytestart, as well as pre-Budget predictions
