Chancellor confirms Budget date set for April 22nd
The Chancellor, Alistair Darling, has announced that he will deliver the 2009 Budget on 22nd April, following the Easter recess and not long after the London G20 meeting.
In November's Pre-Budget Report, the Chancellor announced the much-derided new 15% standard VAT rate, a deferral in the planned increase to the small companies' tax rate (it stayed at 21%), the postponement of any action on 'income shifting', as well as future rises in NIC's and a higher income tax rate.
Unfortunately, Darling also predicted that the UK economy would return to growth during the second half of 2009!
It could prove to be a very tough Budget this year, with no room to manoeuvre on tax cuts, and no good news to report on the economy.
We will, of course, provide full Budget 2009 coverage here on Bytestart.
