Self assessment paper deadline looms, file online by 31st January
The Self Assessment paper deadline is coming up - if you’re going to file your Tax Return on paper you need to do so by 31st October.
However, if you file online (as we're all encouraged to these days), you'll have three months longer before you need to submit your return, and you get your calculations done for you. The deadline for online submission is 31st January.
To prepare and submit your Tax Return online you need to register for an online account. HMRC will then send you an activation code within 7 days so you can activate your account.
Aside from the potential problems caused by any postal disruption at the time, submitting online saves time and will help reduce errors and discrepancies.
For further help and advice, take a look at HMRC's self assessment site.
